Since 1925 Fort Monmouth has stood as a landmark in our area. What began as the Signal Corps training facility in Little Silver eventually grew into a massive hub for military communications housing the Communications-Electronics Command Center. Hundreds of communication advancements and firsts came from the Fort, including the forerunner of the Army Air Corps and U.S. Air Force. In 2005, the Base Realignment and Closure commission ordered the closure of Fort Monmouth and the relation of the CECOM to Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland.
